چکیده

The nitrous oxide method for regional blood flow determination is based on the assumption that concentration equilibrium for nitrous oxide between the organ and its venous blood is reached. This assumption is examined, and it is shown mathematically that faulty equilibrium is not revealed by presently available criteria. It is shown that quantitatively and qualitatively erroneous results may lie obtained by the use of this method for the estimation of regional blood flow.

Uveal Blood Flow Determined by the Nitrous Oxide Method.

E/xtensive investigation of the uveal circulation and ocular blood flow has been carried out since the original work by Waller in 1856. A dynamic determination of the uveal blood flow without alteration of normal physiologic processes has been hampered by the complexity of the vascular supply and its inaccessibility. Several recent reviews" have summarized previous methods used. The significanc...

Influence of equianaesthetic concentrations of nitrous oxide and isoflurane on regional cerebral blood flow, regional cerebral blood volume, and regional mean transit time in human volunteers.

Nitrous oxide and isoflurane have cerebral vasodilatory effects. The use of isoflurane in neuroanaesthesia is widely accepted, whereas the use of nitrous oxide in neuroanaesthesia is still the subject of debate. In the present study, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) perfusion measurement was used to compare the effects of 0.4 MAC nitrous oxide (n=9) and 0.4 MAC isoflurane (n=9) on regi...

P110: Nitrous Oxide and Neuroinflammation

Nitrous oxide was an anaesthetic gas that was used for many years. There were many anaesthetic drugs in operations  with many side effects. Nitrous oxide had some side effects too. But it was a safe gas in many times. In hospital personnel who worked in operating rooms exposure to this gas was important. The objective of this study was the introduction of nitrous oxide and neurologic side ...

The measurement of cerebral blood flow by external isotope counting.

The Kety-Schmidt nitrous oxide method (2) is presently the only well-accepted technique for the quantitative estimation of human cerebral perfusion. In spite of theoretical objections (3) and practical limitations it has provided a wealth of otherwise unobtainable information. The procedure is tedious, however, and has remained predominantly a laboratory research tool. Efforts have continued to...

The addition of nitrous oxide to halothane decreases renal and splanchnic flow and increases cerebral blood flow in rats.

Thirteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were anaesthetized with halothane and catheters were placed in the femoral artery and left ventricle. The animals breathed spontaneously through a tracheostomy throughout the investigation. After the surgical preparation, the inspired halothane concentration was maintained at 1.5 vol% (F/O2 = 0.3). After a 30-min stabilization period, strontium-85 radiolabelled...
